Karazhan Raid Guide TBC Classic (Boss Order, Mechanics & Attunement)

Karazhan is a 10-player Tier 4 raid in Deadwind Pass in The Burning Crusade Classic. This guide covers Karazhan’s recommended boss order, the core mechanics that wipe most first-time groups, and the full Master’s Key attunement steps so you can actually get in the door.

Karazhan is typically paired with Gruul’s Lair and Magtheridon’s Lair for Phase 1 progression. Once your group is comfortable with Karazhan mechanics, you’ll be ready to start gearing quickly across all Tier 4 raids.

This guide is intentionally concise and designed for players who want a quick refresher on core mechanics.

Karazhan Attunement (TBC Classic)

To enter Karazhan in The Burning Crusade Classic, players normally complete the Karazhan attunement questline, which rewards The Master’s Key. While it is possible to enter without the key using summons or another player opening the door, most groups strongly recommend completing the attunement.

Note: In TBC Classic Anniversary, raid attunements are account-wide, meaning you only need to complete this once per account.

Attunement Requirements

Step 1: Archmage Alturus (Deadwind Pass)

Begin the Karazhan attunement by speaking to Archmage Alturus in Deadwind Pass at 47.0, 75.6. Accept Arcane Disturbances and Restless Activity and complete both inside the Master’s Cellar beneath Karazhan.

After turning in the quests, you will be sent to Alterac Mountains, then to Khadgar in Shattrath City to begin the key fragment stage.

Step 2: Collect the Three Key Fragments

This is the longest part of the attunement. You must collect three key fragments from level 70 dungeons, returning to Khadgar between steps.

  • First Key Fragment: Shadow Labyrinth — loot the Arcane Container after defeating Murmur.
  • Second Key Fragment: The Steamvault — loot from the Arcane Container before the first boss.
  • Third Key Fragment: The Arcatraz — loot the Arcane Container after the first boss.

After collecting all three fragments, return to Khadgar in Shattrath.

Step 3: Forge the Master’s Key (Black Morass)

Khadgar will send you to The Black Morass in the Caverns of Time with the quest The Master’s Touch. Complete the dungeon in full, then speak to Medivh at the end to receive The Master’s Key.

Important: All party members must be attuned to enter The Black Morass.

Attunement Tips

  • Plan dungeon runs together to avoid re-forming groups.
  • Flying makes The Arcatraz access significantly easier. Summoning in Netherstorm will likely be disabled in Phase 1.
  • Always confirm you have the active quest before entering each dungeon.

Once complete, you are fully attuned to Karazhan.
