The Arcatraz Dungeon Overview
Quick facts
The Arcatraz (“Arc”) is the hardest of the Tempest Keep 5-player dungeons in Netherstorm, with four bosses and some extremely punishing trash mechanics. Normal mode is already spicy, and Heroic cranks it up fast.
How to Get to The Arcatraz
The Arcatraz entrance is in Netherstorm at 74, 57 inside the Tempest Keep hub. It’s the highest elevation wing (north side) and requires a flying mount to reach.

Key to the Arcatraz
To enter The Arcatraz, only one person in the group needs 31084 to open the gate in front of the instance. Alternatively, a Level 70 Rogue with 350 Lockpicking can open it.
The key is earned by completing 10704, the final quest in a long chain that begins with 10263 (Aldor) / 10264 (Scryers).
Heroic The Arcatraz Requirements
To enter Heroic, you need Level 70 and Revered with The Sha'tar. Purchase the Heroic key 30634 from the quartermaster 21432.
Every Heroic boss drops 29434 (turn in to G’eras in Shattrath for epic rewards), and the final boss guarantees a 23572.
The Arcatraz Quests
This video walkthrough shows where to pick up every The Arcatraz quest before entering the dungeon and inside The Arcatraz in TBC Classic.
The written quest list below covers all Alliance and Horde The Arcatraz quests, including prerequisites and where each quest is completed.
Quest overview
- 10882 (kill Skyriss) is given and turned in to 18481 in Shattrath after completing the chain starting with 10280. Rewards: 31747, 31749, or 31748.
- Karazhan attunement: 9832 requires looting 24488 from the Arcane Container near Zereketh (up the ramp, corner on the right before the next room).
- 10705 is part of the long chain to get attuned to 3959 and begins in Shadowmoon Valley. It includes trips to Arcatraz, Serpentshrine Cavern, Mount Hyjal, and the Black Temple.
Bosses
Zereketh the Unbound
20870 is the first boss of The Arcatraz. The trash in his room is extremely dangerous, so pull carefully.
Zereketh the Unbound Strategy
- High tank and party damage. Keep healing steady and avoid panic movement.
- Tank against a wall: Shadow Nova includes knockback.
- Move out of Void Zones immediately.
- If you get Seed of Corruption, move 10 yards away from others. Dispel if your group can.
- Heroic: no new mechanics, but everything hits harder.
Zereketh the Unbound Abilities
Dalliah the Doomsayer
20885 shares a chamber with Wrath-Scryer Soccothrates, but they are separate fights. Do not pull both at once. Most groups kill Dalliah first.
Dalliah the Doomsayer Strategy
- Tank her where she stands and minimize movement so you don’t accidentally tag Soccothrates.
- Run away during Whirlwind.
- Interrupt Gift of the Doomsayer and Heal whenever possible.
- Heroic: gains Shadow Wave, targeting the farthest player and applying a debuff that increases Shadow damage taken by 50%.
Dalliah the Doomsayer Abilities
Wrath-Scryer Soccothrates
20886 should be fought after Dalliah so you have the space to move around safely.
Wrath-Scryer Soccothrates Strategy
- After each Knock Away/Charge, relocate to an area free of the trail left behind by his Charge.
- Melee and tank should avoid being knocked into Felfire by Knock Away.
- Ranged/healers should stand 15+ yards away to avoid Fel Immolation damage.
- Heroic: Felfire Shock hits much harder. Be ready for big heals, and treat the Fel Immolation trail as lethal.
Wrath-Scryer Soccothrates Abilities
Harbinger Skyriss
20912 is the final boss. Before you fight him, you’ll defeat prisoners released by 20904 from four prison cells.
Harbinger Skyriss Abilities
Prison Cells
First prison cell
Second prison cell
The second cell contains 20977, who will assist the party by casting spells at enemy targets.
Third prison cell
The third cell may contain 20909 or 20908.
- Sulfuron Magma-Thrower: casts 39026 and applies 36917 (reduced healing received).
- Magma-Thrower also uses 39024 around him; move out of it.
- Akkiris Lightning-Waker: uses 19714 (dispellable) and curses with 36914.
- 36915 hits all players for Nature damage.
Both enemies’ curses can be dispelled by classes with curse removal.
Fourth prison cell
The fourth cell may contain 20911 or 20910.
- Blackwing Drakonaar: attacks tank with 13737 and breathes with 39033. Also deals 39038 within 20 yards.
- Twilight Drakonaar cycles attacks: 22561 stun, 39033 Fire, 39037 Frost slow, 39036 Arcane slow, and 39034 Fire aura within 15 yards.
Tanks should face these drakonaar away from the group.
Harbinger Skyriss Strategy
- Use big cooldowns early so Complete Domination doesn’t get “wasted” at a bad moment.
- At 66% and 33% HP, Skyriss summons a low-health clone that deals Mind Rend damage to random players.
- Mark the real Skyriss at pull. The clone spawns unmarked, making swaps fast and obvious.
- Swap and kill clones immediately: low health, high damage.
- Heroic: all mini-bosses hit harder and have more HP; Skyriss’s Mind Rend is more dangerous.
The Arcatraz Trash Overview
Trash TL;DR
- Humanoid/Demon-heavy, but a lot of mobs ignore typical CC. Save control for “oh no” moments.
- Death Watchers: hard DPS check after 50% or the party dies.
- Entropic Eyes: tank must face away from the group (cone attack).
- Eredar Deathbringers: constant AoE + knockback. Tank back to wall.
- Gargantuan Abyssals: stack and split damage or someone gets one-shot.
