Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker: A Legendary Weapon from WoW Classic

If you’re a WoW Classic player, you may have heard of Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker, a legendary one-handed sword that was introduced in Vanilla WoW. This weapon is not only iconic for its cool name and unique appearance but also for its powerful stats and legendary status, which requires a long and challenging questline to obtain. In this blog post, we’ll dive deeper into Thunderfury’s lore, design, and gameplay, and explore why it’s still a sought-after item among WoW players today.

What is Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker?

Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker, or simply Thunderfury or TF, is a level 60 one-handed sword that was first added to WoW in Patch 1.6, “Assault on Blackwing Lair,” in June 2005. The sword has a unique look, featuring a lightning bolt aura. According to the lore, Thunderfury was created by Prince Thunderaan, as a weapon to vanquish his elemental rival, Ragnaros, the Firelord, who had invaded his realm. After Thunderaan was defeated and his essence shattered into two bindings, the sword was kept hidden and guarded by Elemental Lords. Players can obtain the bindings by defeating bosses Garr and Baron Geddon in the Molten Core raid, and combine them with other rare materials to forge Thunderfury.

Why is Thunderfury so special?

Thunderfury is not only special for its appearance and backstory but also for its powerful stats and unique abilities. Once obtained, Thunderfury grants the wielder a chance to proc a debuff that reduces the attack speed and movement speed of enemies within a 10-yard radius, and a chance to proc a lightning bolt that deals extra nature damage and spreads the debuff. It’s extremely powerful in the hands of your main tank.

How to obtain Thunderfury?

Obtaining Thunderfury requires a lot of time, luck, and dedication. Your journey begins once you obtain your first binding from either Baron Geddon and Garr inside Molten Core. Take the binding to Highlord Demetrian in Silithus and he will lead you to the Examine the Vessel quest.
