Your adventure begins with class trainers sending you on a quest to find a mysterious rune. The catch? Only the first discovery will be quest-guided; the rest are up to you to unearth! These hidden gems, aptly named “Discoveries,” are concealed throughout the vast game world. They’re not your typical quests, they won’t appear on your map, and they come in various forms, from small lootable treasures tucked away in a mine to intricate puzzles that require the collaboration of several players.
The goal of these Discoveries is to infuse a sense of adventure into the otherwise familiar Classic world. What’s even more thrilling is that there won’t be any public PTR or beta testing, preserving the element of mystery.
A Seamless Journey with Level Banded Content
To keep everyone in sync, the Season of Discovery employs level-banded content phases. Starting with the first phase, the level cap is set at 25, making the game more accessible and encouraging players to experiment with character optimization. This approach aims to minimize the fear of missing out (FOMO) and players outpacing each other, ensuring that players can always play together.
With each level cap increase, an experience catch-up mechanic will be introduced to help players catch up with the rest. It’s all about fostering a sense of camaraderie! The other revealed level caps will be 25, 40, 50, and 60! Players are already theorizing what content unlocks at each level tier.
Raiding Adventures Await!
The first raid of the Season of Discovery will take you to the revamped Blackfathom Deeps, now a 10-player instance. This pinnacle activity awaits level 25-capped players, featuring new encounters, mechanics, and tantalizing loot.
But that’s not all! As level caps increase, you’ll unlock a series of outdoor PvP events, adding a dash of unpredictability to your journey. Plus, the door is wide open for exploring future raid and dungeon content, potentially including never-before-seen or unfinished vanilla content. This is just the start of an exciting journey into the unknown!
Unleash the Power of Rune Engraving
Introducing Rune Engraving, a fresh skill available to all characters. This skill empowers you to discover runes for your chest, legs, and gloves slots. These runes can be swapped in and out of combat, allowing you to customize your abilities as you see fit. It’s a game-changer, giving you the freedom to tinker with your abilities and even buff certain classes and spells.
A Multitude of Runes
Prepare to be dazzled by the 100+ runes in the L1-25 bracket. Some of these runes will redefine your understanding of classes. Imagine Rogues tanking, Paladins taunting, and so much more! Many of these runes draw inspiration from various expansions, while others bring fresh mechanics to the table, tailored for a Classic experience.
- Druids: Interrupt foes with Skull Bash in cat/bear form, use Fury of Stormrage to eliminate the mana cost of Wrath, and apply a HoT to party members with Wild Growth.
- Hunters: Enhance your pets with Beast Mastery, utilize Growl as a superior taunt, and embrace Lone Wolf to excel without a pet.
- Mages: Master Ice Lance, Living Flame, and utilize Regeneration as a beacon-based heal via time manipulation.
- Paladins: Step up your game with Hand of Reckoning as a taunt and mana restorer, utilize Crusader Strike for direct damage and mana regeneration, and cleave enemies with Seal of Martyrdom.
- Priests: Channel Penance, deploy Prayer of Mending, and bring miniature versions of your character to life with Homunculi to attack and debuff enemies.
- Rogues: Unleash Shadowstrike, Envenom, and turn Feint into a taunt called Tease with the Just a Flesh Wound ability.
- Shaman: Conquer foes with Lava Lash, deploy Healing Rain, and unlock Shaman tanking capabilities with Earthshock as a taunt.
- Warlocks: Harness the power of Haunt, Chaos Bolt, and transform with Metamorphosis, with instant Searing Pain and a taunt through Curse of Recklessness.

Ashenvale, known for its beauty and resources, is a fiercely contested battleground. In the Season of Discovery, achieving kills triggers a zone-wide PvP event, calling on players to defeat a Farseer and Priestess of the Moon. Weaken these faction leaders by conquering smaller camps across the zone, akin to the mechanics of Alterac Valley. Additionally, a unique mount awaits you in Ashenvale, simplifying your travel in this challenging terrain.
Level-Up Raids: Blackfathom Deeps Reimagined
Blackfathom Deeps, once a 5-player dungeon, has been transformed into a level 25 raid designed for 10-player groups, complete with a 3-day lockout, akin to Zul’Gurub. While the story, location, and creatures remain the same, you’ll face seven new bosses and discover fresh loot. Secrets within the raid, including a new world buff known as the “Boon of Blackfathom,” add layers of intrigue to your adventures.
