WoW Classic PvP ranking updates in Patch 1.14.4

Blizzard has released a detailed blog post outlining the changes that are coming to the WoW Classic Public Test Realm (PTR), which is currently testing the updated PvP Honor System in Patch 1.14.4.

Reddit user /u/axewipe_ helped summarize the main points:

  • No more ranking, bracket stacking, or pool boosting. Just earn honor.
  • There is a maximum amount of honor that you can earn each week. Currently 750K honor per week is the cap.
  • As of writing this post, it will take a minimum of 8 weeks to reach rank 14 (this is slightly longer than SoM, but shorter than original)
  • You can lose progress within your rank, but you can never de-rank (if you hit rank 14, then you are permanently a High Warlord/Grand Marshal)
  • Because of the above point, you can hit rank 10, take a few weeks/months/even a year off, then come back and pick up where you left off!

750k honor a week is a lot, but doable for the sweats. The overall response to these changes seem very positive. I think my personal favorite is the removal de-ranking. Really caters to the less sweaty players who are still serious, but may not have as much of a time commitment.

What do you think of the PvP ranking honor changes?

Here’s a throwback world PvP video for you from the WoW Classic Beta in 2019:

World PvP highlights from the Classic WoW Beta. Huge battles of Horde vs. Alliance from my PoV as a Holy Paladin. These features 4 epic battles that took place in the Elwynn Forest, Arathi Highlands, Duskwood and Stranglethorn Vale. There’s victory, defeat, and everything in between.
