Blizzard has restored WoW Classic Hardcore characters that died during a malicious DDoS attack affecting three North American realms on July 21, 2026.

The restoration was announced on the official World of Warcraft forums by Blizzard community manager Kaivax.

“Today, we’ve restored the dead player-characters who were lost during the DDoS timeframe and remained on their Hardcore realm.”

Which WoW Classic Hardcore Characters Were Restored?

The restoration applies to characters who died during the July 21 DDoS attack and remained on their original Hardcore realm. Players who meet both conditions should now be able to log back into those characters and continue playing on the Hardcore server.

Blizzard confirmed that the restoration process is complete. The announcement did not name the three affected North American Hardcore realms or require eligible players to submit individual restoration requests.

Why Did Blizzard Restore the Characters?

Character death is normally permanent in WoW Classic Hardcore. However, these deaths resulted from an intentionally malicious attack against Blizzard’s servers rather than ordinary gameplay, leading Blizzard to restore the affected characters.
