Starting the SSC Attunement Quest
To begin the Serpentshrine Cavern attunement, enter Heroic Slave Pens in Coilfang Reservoir.
After defeating the first boss, Mennu the Betrayer, look for the NPC Skar’this the Heretic inside a cage nearby.
Speak with him to accept the quest:
This quest requires you to collect two important items:
Once both items are collected, you’ll return them to Skar’this to complete the attunement.
How to Get the Earthen Signet
The Earthen Signet is obtained from the raid boss Gruul the Dragonkiller inside Gruul’s Lair.
To obtain this item, assemble a raid group and defeat Gruul. After the boss is defeated, the Earthen Signet can be looted directly from his corpse.
This is the first of the two items required to complete the Serpentshrine Cavern attunement.
How to Get the Blazing Signet
The Blazing Signet drops from Nightbane, the optional boss encounter inside Karazhan.
However, before you can fight Nightbane, you must complete a quest chain that rewards the Blackened Urn, the item used to summon him.
How to Unlock the Blackened Urn
The quest chain begins once you reach Honored with The Violet Eye.
Speak with Archmage Alturus outside Karazhan and accept the quest:
Inside Karazhan, you will encounter Wravien, who continues the quest chain. This eventually sends you to Netherstorm to speak with Kalynna Lathred outside Area 52.
Kalynna will ask you to retrieve two dungeon items:
- Book of Forgotten Names from Darkweaver Syth in Sethekk Halls
- Tome of Dusk from Grand Warlock Nethekurse in The Shattered Halls
After completing this quest chain, you will receive the quest Nightbane and the item Blackened Urn.
How to Summon Nightbane
Return to Karazhan with a raid group and travel to Medivh’s Terrace, the balcony near the top of the tower.
Use the Blackened Urn to summon Nightbane.
After defeating Nightbane, loot the Blazing Signet.
Completing the Serpentshrine Cavern Attunement
Once you have both required items:
- Earthen Signet from Gruul
- Blazing Signet from Nightbane
Return to Skar’this the Heretic inside Heroic Slave Pens.
Turn in The Cudgel of Kar’desh, and the NPC will cast The Mark of Vashj on you.
Once this is complete, you are officially attuned to Serpentshrine Cavern and can enter the raid.
