Black Temple Boss Guides – TBC Classic Anniversary
Black Temple is a 25-player Tier 6 raid in Shadowmoon Valley in The Burning Crusade Classic. This quick-reference guide covers the essential strategies, mechanics, positioning, and class tips for all nine Black Temple bosses, from High Warlord Naj’entus through Illidan Stormrage.
Each boss section includes the encounter’s most important mechanics, phase transitions, positioning instructions, and useful class-specific tips.

High Warlord Naj’entus Strategy
Strategy
- Spread out around High Warlord Naj’entus to reduce splash damage from Needle Spine.
- Free players targeted by Impaling Spine by clicking the spine protruding from them.
- The player who removes it receives a Naj’entus Spine. Save it to break Tidal Shield.
- Top off the entire raid before throwing the spine. Breaking Tidal Shield causes heavy raid-wide damage.

Supremus Strategy
Strategy
Phase 1 – Tank Phase
- This phase lasts 60 seconds. Tanks establish threat while the raid deals damage.
- Move away from Molten Flame created by Molten Punch.
- Tanks and healers should prepare for damage spikes from Hateful Strike.
Phase 2 – Kite Phase
- This phase also lasts 60 seconds. Run away when Supremus targets you and never allow him to reach you.
- Avoid Volcanic Geyser eruptions.
- Supremus has no normal threat table during Phase 2. Threat resets when Phase 1 resumes.

Shade of Akama Strategy
Strategy
Phase 1 – Channelers and Adds
- Kill Ashtongue Channelers and Ashtongue Sorcerers as quickly as possible.
- One tank should collect Ashtongue Defenders. Other tanks pick up Spiritbinders, Rogues, and Elementalists from the doorways.
- Use slows and roots such as hunter traps and Frost Nova so tanks can kite the adds. DPS should remain focused on the Channelers and Sorcerers.
- Phase 2 begins when Shade of Akama reaches Akama.
Phase 2 – Burn Phase
- The raid has approximately one minute to kill Shade of Akama before it kills Akama. Save offensive cooldowns for this phase.

Teron Gorefiend Strategy
Strategy
- Every 30 seconds, a player receives Shadow of Death. When roughly 20 seconds remain, move to the assigned corner away from the raid.
- When the debuff expires, you become a Vengeful Spirit. Kill the Shadowy Constructs before they reach the raid.
- Use Spirit Lance for single-target damage and slowing, Spirit Chains for area control, and Spirit Volley for area damage.
- Healers should dispel Incinerate quickly and prepare for raid damage from Shadow Bolt volleys.

Reliquary of Souls Strategy
Strategy
Phase 1 – Essence of Suffering
- Aura of Suffering prevents healing and regeneration while reducing armor. Tanks must rotate and use cooldowns because healers cannot restore health.
- Dispel Soul Drain immediately.
Phase 2 – Essence of Desire
- Aura of Desire increases healing but reflects a portion of damage dealt and steadily reduces maximum mana.
- Interrupt Spirit Shock, react to Deaden, and destroy Rune Shield quickly.
Phase 3 – Essence of Anger
- Aura of Anger increases damage over time, making this the final burn phase.
- Watch threat when affected by Seethe. Face Essence of Anger away from the raid because of Soul Scream.
- Healers should prepare to top off players affected by Spite.

Gurtogg Bloodboil Strategy
Strategy
Phase 1 – Bloodboil
- This phase lasts 60 seconds. Establish a group rotation for Bloodboil, which targets the five farthest players.
- Tanks should rotate after Bewildering Strike.
Phase 2 – Fel Rage
- Phase 2 begins after the fifth Bloodboil and lasts 30 seconds. Gurtogg and one random player gain Fel Rage.
- The targeted player becomes the tank. Face Gurtogg away from the raid because of Fel-Acid Breath and use every available defensive ability.
- Ranged players should remain at least 18 yards away to avoid Fel Geyser. Normal threat does not apply during this phase.

Mother Shahraz Strategy
Strategy
- Use three tanks to split the damage from Saber Lash.
- When targeted by Fatal Attraction, immediately separate from the other linked players until the effect breaks.
- Casters should remain outside the range of Interrupting Shriek whenever possible.
- Mother Shahraz cycles through four beam effects: Sinful Beam, Sinister Beam, Vile Beam, and Wicked Beam.

Illidari Council Strategy
Strategy
- The four bosses share one health pool.
- Have a Mage tank High Nethermancer Zerevor away from the group and use Spellsteal on Dampen Magic.
- Spread out and move away from Flamestrike and Blizzard.
- Off-tanks control Lady Malande and Veras Darkshadow. Heal Veras’s target after Vanish and Envenom.
- Assign both physical and magical interrupts to Malande’s Circle of Healing. Gathios the Shatterer can protect her with Blessing of Protection or Blessing of Spell Warding.
- The main tank holds Gathios, the raid’s primary damage target. Move him out of Consecration.

Illidan Stormrage Strategy
Strategy
Phase 1 – 100% to 65%
- Face Illidan Stormrage away from the raid because of Draw Soul.
- Tanks must use active mitigation or defensive cooldowns for Shear.
- Avoid the fire left by Flame Crash. Move away from the raid when targeted by Parasitic Shadowfiend.
Phase 2 – Flames of Azzinoth
- At 65%, Illidan takes flight and summons two Flames of Azzinoth. Assign two Fire Resistance tanks and face the adds away from the raid for Flame Blast.
- Keep each Flame close to its glaive or it gains Uncaged Wrath. Avoid Blaze patches and Illidan’s Fireballs; heal players targeted by Dark Barrage.
Phase 3 – Normal Form
- Phase 3 begins when both Flames die and alternates with Phase 4 until Illidan reaches 30% health.
- Handle the Phase 1 mechanics and spread out for Agonizing Flames.
Phase 4 – Demon Form
- A Shadow Resistance Warlock tanks Illidan at range. Melee must stay away because of Aura of Dread.
- Everyone should stay at least 20 yards from the Warlock tank and spread out for Shadow Blast and Flame Burst.
- Kill Shadow Demons immediately before they reach their fixated targets.
Phase 5 – 30% to Defeat
- Phase 5 resembles Phase 3, but Illidan gains Frenzy and continues alternating with Demon Form. Tanks should use defensive cooldowns during Frenzy.
- Maiev Shadowsong periodically creates Cage Traps. Pulling Illidan onto an armed trap stuns him and increases his damage taken by 100% for 15 seconds.
- Moving Illidan can be dangerous. If the raid uses a Cage Trap, prepare for Demon Form to begin immediately afterward.
