Unlike herbs such as Felweed, Ragveil, or Dreaming Glory, Ancient Lichen is mostly found inside dungeons or using your Herbalism to gather from certain bog lord-type mobs.

Where to Farm Ancient Lichen in TBC Classic

The best way to farm Ancient Lichen is by running dungeons with Ancient Lichen node spawns. While there are many possible spawn points across different dungeons, only a limited number of nodes may be active during any given instance reset.

Ancient Lichen nodes can appear inside several Coilfang Reservoir and Auchindoun dungeons, making it a very different farm compared to traditional open-world Herbalism routes.

Best Dungeons for Ancient Lichen

1. The Underbog

The Underbog is one of the best dungeons for farming Ancient Lichen. It has multiple possible herb spawn locations and is often considered the most reliable dungeon for this herb.

Because The Underbog is located in Coilfang Reservoir, it can also be paired with other nearby dungeons such as The Slave Pens and The Steamvault if you want to check multiple instances during a farming session.

2. Mana-Tombs

Mana-Tombs is another strong option for Ancient Lichen farming. While it may not always have as many active nodes as The Underbog, it is a fast dungeon to navigate and can be useful if you are already farming Auchindoun instances.

You can also pair Mana-Tombs with nearby Auchindoun dungeons such as Auchenai Crypts, Sethekk Halls, and Shadow Labyrinth.

3. The Steamvault

The Steamvault can contain Ancient Lichen nodes and is especially useful if you are combining Herbalism with other profession farms. Engineers can also use the Zapthrottle Mote Extractor to gather gas clouds inside The Steamvault, making this a strong multi-profession farming option.

4. The Slave Pens

The Slave Pens can also contain Ancient Lichen spawns, though it is generally less popular than The Underbog for pure Ancient Lichen farming.

5. Auchenai Crypts

Auchenai Crypts is one of the Auchindoun dungeons where Ancient Lichen nodes may appear. It is worth checking if you are rotating through Auchindoun instances.

6. Sethekk Halls

Sethekk Halls can also contain Ancient Lichen spawns. This dungeon is another possible stop if you are farming Ancient Lichen through dungeon resets.

7. Shadow Labyrinth

Shadow Labyrinth has possible Ancient Lichen spawns, but because the dungeon is longer than some of the other options, it may not be the most efficient farm unless you are already running it for other reasons.

8. The Botanica

Players have reported rarely finding Ancient Lichen in The Botanica, but it is not considered one of the most reliable farming locations. Treat The Botanica as a bonus source rather than a primary Ancient Lichen farm.

Farming Ancient Lichen from Bog Lords

Ancient Lichen can also be gathered by killing and using your Herbalism skill on certain bog lord-type enemies. This method is much less reliable than dungeon node farming, but it can be useful if you are already farming in Zangarmarsh or working on Sporeggar reputation.

The outdoor herbalism rate from bog lord-type mobs in Zangarmarsh is very low, around 2%, so this should not be treated as the fastest way to farm Ancient Lichen.

• Withered Bog Lord
• Starving Fungal Giant
• Withered Giant

These mobs can also be farmed for Bog Lord Tendrils, which are used for Sporeggar reputation. If you are farming reputation and Herbalism materials at the same time, this can be a decent bonus farm.

The most efficient way to farm Ancient Lichen is usually to focus on dungeons with fast routes and multiple possible herb spawns.
